Program Critique (Tusker Project Fame-season four)

TUSKER PROJECT FAME- SEASON FOUR


Episode one
It is a normal weekday and every contestant is working hard to win the final price. Panning is done as kavutha enters the house for the voice session and a close up is done as she sits down. A long shot of the contestants is taken as they listen to their teacher. Over the shoulder shot is taken as Gabiro rehearses his song. During free time, a two shot is taken of Rachael and Steve as they argue. An extreme close up of R-kay is taken during master class. Lighting is well done using fluorescent lights

Episode two

Zooming in and out using camera crane as the show starts. The viewers are able to see each of the contestants, well dressed and ready to perform. Close up of each judge and teachers are then done. As contestant Rachael was performing, panning was done too fast which is not right, it should be smoothly done to show a smooth transition. Lighting was well done using floodlights to get rid of shadows and a spotlight was used as each contestant was performing.



Episode three

High camera angle is taken as presenter Sheila Mwanyigah enters the stage while panning is done on Dr. Mich as he enters through the back stage. Panning was done as the contestants moved about the floor performing. Zooming in and out was done as the judges commented on contestant’s performances. A two shot was taken on Judge Juliana and Judge Ian. Floodlights and spotlights were used for good lighting and to create a jovial mood.

Episode four

Camera was zoomed in on a crane as the show stared. Two shots were taken as the contestants performed in pairs and close ups taken in turns as each sang their part. Wide shots were taken on the teachers to show their reaction as the contestants were performing on stage. Lighting was done using floodlights and spotlights. Sound was good apart from the start where Sheila was knocking her microphone to check whether it was working.

Episode five

Bird’s eye view was taken all round the room as the show started. Over the shoulder shot was taken as Dr.Mich interviewed Amelina before her performance. Close up shots were taken on the judges and teachers as they commented on the contestant’s performances. Floodlights and spotlights were used for lighting. Sound was balanced all through the show.

Episode Six

In the house the contestants are reviewing their performances and close ups shots are taken on each contestant to show their reaction. A high angle is taken on the contestants as they are seated watching their performances. Panning is done as their teacher exits the room. Lighting is neither too bright nor dull but is well provided by the fluorescent lights.

Episode seven

Contestants are busy rehearsing for Sunday’s performances. A contestant blocked the camera causing blackout for a second or so. A wide shot of all contestants is taken as they rehearse. A close up is taken on each teacher as they trained. An extreme close up of David is taken as he practiced.

Episode eight

Show begins with a signature tune and zooming in is done using a crane. Panning from right to left and close up shots are taken on contestants as they performed. Close up shots are also taken on the judges as they gave their comments.This enables the viewer to focus on one particular judge and their comments. Extreme close ups are taken as the contestants are saved by audience, teachers and fellow contestants. There is appropriate use of sound effects as the contestants are holding each other awaiting to be evicted.

Episode nine
In the house the contestants are rehearsing. Close up shots are taken during voice session with teacher kavutha. An extreme close up of kavutha is taken as she demonstrates. A two shot is taken of Palek and Steve helping each other rehearse their songs. Medium close up shot of Rachael is taken during the principal’s session. There are extreme close up shots of contestants as they keenly listen to the guest speaker. Lighting is well done using fluorescent lights. Sound is also good as we can hear each speaker clearly.

Episode ten

The Show starts with a signature tune and zooming in on a crane as the presenters Sheila mwanyigah and Dr. Mich enter the stage. A close up of each is taken as they introduce the show. As contestants dance on stage, medium shots are taken, then a close up of their facial expression as they dance. A full shot of all the contestants’ reaction toward the one on stage is lastly taken. Close-up shots of Msechu and Rachael talking on the piano are taken, an extreme close up on Msechu is taken as he gives Rachael advice on how to improve her stage performance.
