ATHI-RIVER CAMPUS
The wedding show is a show aired every Sunday on Citizen Television at 6 p.m. It is usually aired for one hour thus runs until 7 p.m. The host of the show is Nonny Gathoni. The theme of the show is weddings. She and her crew attend different wedding occasions and cover them thus bring them on air for their viewers. I love the wedding show and I cannot afford to miss it every Sunday and that is why I chose to critique it. There are quite a number of thing that I have learned from watching thee program. Some which include the camera shots and angles, use of microphone among others.
CAMERA SHOTS
There were various camera shots used for different occasions at the weddings:
• Long shot of the church where the couple would exchange vows.
• Extreme close up shots of the bouquet carried by the flower girls.
• Extreme close up shots of the couple’s guests’ faces to show emotion of happiness.
• Long shot of the cars coming into the reception.
• Close up shot of the bride and groom holding hands as they gave their promises to each other.
• Extreme close up shot of the cake to see the different colors and design.
• Extreme close up shot of the bride’s face to show emotions as she explained why she chose the man she is wedding that day.
• Close up shot of the groom slipping the ring on the bride’s finger.
• Long shot of the couple as they walked out of the church as husband and wife.
• During the photo shoot, there was an extreme close up of the bride’s ring on her finger.
• Long shots of the groom’s family as they sang welcoming the couple to the reception.
• Full shot of the bride’s maids and groomsmen.
CAMERA MOVEMENTS
• The cameraman panned right and left showing the maids and groomsmen dressing.
• There were dollied in and out shots of the bride’s dress.
• The cameraman zoomed in on the flower girls dress to show the design and clarity.
• He also tilted up on the guests at the wedding to show their designs.
• The cameraman followed right as the entourage came in to the church from the bride’s home as the groom and his best man plus other guests waited patiently inside.
LIGHTING
• There were good lighting skills brought out by the crew.
• Outdoor lighting as well as indoor lighting was good, clearance of photos.
MICROPHONE USE AND SOUND
• Sound clarity was good though some occasions were outdoor they used tactics to minimize outdoor noise which included traffic noise, wind among others.
• Nonny Gathoni used a lavaliere microphone when introducing the show as she gave the events that were to take place.
• The use of an omnidirectional microphone when interviewing the couple.
• The groom and bride used a unidirectional microphone as they exchanged vows in church as the best man and best maid held it close to their mouths when using it.
• In other occasions Nonny Gathoni used a unidirectional microphone during the interview with the couple.
• Both the unidirectional and omnidirectional microphone were hand held, light and easy to carry around
MUSIC
Good use of music by the production crew made the show interesting to watch. At times the music was at the background as Nonny explained the proceedings at the wedding. The music used was appropriate, used at the right time and for the right purpose. Thus making the show worth to watch.
Despite being entertaining Nonny’s show has taught me a lot about camera shots movements, microphone use an many more, it is worth watching, it is interesting and loveable. It adds to the knowledge I get from class by making I more practical.
